Dopaminergic innervation of the brain in pigeons. The presumed "Prefrontal Cortex"

Abstract

In the postero-dorso-lateral neostriatum (PDLNS) of the pigeon we found a high density of tyrosine hydroxylase and perineuronal nests of fibres labelled with anti-dopamine antibody. These data confirm our earlier indirect evidence that PDLNS receives a dense doparninergic innervation and therefore can be compared with the mammalian prefrontal cortex.
